It depends really on why you would like one. USCIS will get it, but if
you have any questions about your own history and want to know what is
there before you apply, you can find directions on the FBI website and
send off for it. It currently takes about four months and costs $18. If
you have any history that concerns you, it will give you a chance to
get expungements and if any charges were reported, you will be able to
provide disposition of charges (ie., you were arrested and all charges
were dropped, but USCIS will still want to see a document stating it.)
at you interview rather than be further delayed by being sent off to
find the documents. (Been there, done that!)
The report we brought was an exact duplicate of the one the interviewer
was holding! So, don't try to even say you were never arrested (unless
you haven't been), because they will be looking at the info and I
suspect some interviewers are even waiting for you to not tell the whole
truth and they do make you raise your hand and swear your are telling
the truth and I suspect if you speak in a manner to deceive (lie!), you
have committed perjury, which is why you will then be banned (for life?)
