| Hello all,
|
| I apologise if this question has been posted before but would very much
| appreciate a quick answer. I have been drawn in the Green Card lottery and
| need to fill the application form as soon as possible. I have a question
| regarding box 10 and 11 on page 1 of the main form DS-230 Part 1.
|
| Box no. 10 asks for a permanent address "in the United States where you
| intend to live, if known".
|
| Box no. 11 asks for the address "in the United States where you want your
| Permanent Resident Card mailed, if different from address in item #10".
|
| I currently live in the UK and I don't yet know the US address where I
will
| be living once I get the Green Card (if I get it), so I plan to put 'not
| known at this time' in item no. 10. However, can I enter my current UK
| address in item no. 11? It seems the form is expecting a US address but I
| don't live there and will not be living there until I receive the GC so I
| cannot enter one. If I do put a UK address, do I need to write an
| explanation as well?
|
| Thank you for your help, it's very much appreciated.

It's very obvious that the form is asking for an "address in the Unites
States" and that's what they want you to fill in the form. You can use a
friend's , relative's or anybody's address if they know you. You're not just
going to fly and immigrate into the US without any prior plans on where to
settle, are you? Immigration should not be treated as simple as a holiday
vacation where booking in a hotel is basically good enough and everything
else would be figured out in time.
You can't become a GC holder (LPR status) anyway while you are still outside
the US because you wouldn't have made an entry yet with immigration
inspection. So it follows that the card shouldn't be sent to you in the UK
when you are not yet in granted the LPR status.
