Hello,
I have a question: I am one step away from US citizenship ( Oath
ceremony end of June ) I am a PR/GC holder, married with a USC for 14
years, same employer for more than a decade, and living in the same
city for 12 years...So, a stable, verifiable situation for more than a
decade. Even the IO at the interview at the DO made the comment "one
marriage, one employer, .. this is an easy one... "
Here is the catch ... I am applying for US citizenship because ..
well' it is time to do it.
The problem is that just recently, my employer has approached me and
asked me if I would be available to move back to my own country for
12-36 months and pursue new suppliers and hopefully new markets.
My employer has had business relations in my old country, and used me
in the past traveling back and forth for business and "translation"
purposes. We had good suppliers from overseas in the mid 90s, then the
market changed and we dropped those business relations.
They would like me to leave sometime early September of this year.
I would not mind it at all, the kids could get a load of theirs
*other* heritage, refresh the language, spend some time with the other
side of the family. It would be perfect.
I would still keep my house in the US, utilities on, pay taxes,
everything here would stay the same, I would not be "burning" ANY ties
with the US at all.
Someone told me that leaving the country so early after US citizenship
*could* be interpreted by USCIS as a "fraudulent behavior" and my
freshly and costly acquired US citizenship has a real good chance to
be revoked, putting me in an extremely bad spot, since I live and work
here, and all my life is here.
Yes, I consulted with *two* attorneys and I got opposite opinion's, I
guess it IS a matter of "interpretation of the law" .... Any advice,
comments, past experiences, would be greatly appreciated..
Thank you.
Andy.
