Hi
I have recently been offered a job in the US. I am a UK citizen and my
fiancee is from Poland. My company has said that they will process both
of our visas (L1 and L2) but only if we are married. The problem is
that we are getting married in the UK at the end of August, and I
imagine that obtaining the L1 and L2 could take another 8 weeks after
that. My employer will be reluctant to agree to this lengthy timeframe.
So to speed things up, I was thinking the other option would be for my
employer to start processing my L1 now and my fiancee could visit the US
embassy in Poland to obtain a tourist visa. But my question is, once we
get married in the UK at the end of August, can we then both enter the
US, and (as a married couple) start the process to convert her tourist
visa into L2 with work permit?
Or can anyone recommend any other way of doing this, bearing in mind,
that my employer will want me to start work in the US at the end of
August (after we are married). My girlfriend wants to work over there,
and feels that she will have difficulty as a Polish Citizen.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Rich
