Depends on where your wife to be in currently living. If she is still
within the US BUT entered the country legally (meaning was inspected
at a POE) then she should not leave the US until after she gets a
green card.
If she is out of the US at the moment BUT departed before she was 18 or
is that 19, the illegal overstay will not count against her. After
either 18 or 19, a 10 year ban is in place.
If she truly entered the US illegally (was not inspected at the POE or
entered fraudulently) then she is not eligible to coattail on your green
card application.
