What the others have said is correct... your lawyer is an idiot.
At any rate, be aware that when she files for adjustment, she'll want to
file for employment authorization, so she can work (well, if she wants
to) and get herself a US driver's license, etc... *BUT* don't bother
filing for travel permission (advance parole), since it would be very
iffy as to whether or not she'd be allowed back into the US after her
overstay. Best not to even bother with it. She should not leave the US
under *any* circumstances whatsoever until she has the green card in her
hand or the I-551 stamp in her passport... *any* circumstances!
