i just checked out the informations about ghana from the swiss tropical
institute (http://www.safetravel.ch):
malaria:
ghana is a high risk malaria country. that means mosquitos transmit
malaria in every part of the country and during the whole year.
they recommand that you take a malaria prophylactic besides of normal
insect repellent. they suggest one the following medications:
-mefloquin (lariam/mephaquin)
-atovaquon + proguanil (malarone)
-doxycyclin (monohydrat)
start taking it 1 week before travelling and don't stop until 4 weeks
after you come back.
vaccinations:
-yellow fever is required to travel into ghana
-suggested are the following: diphteria, tetanus, hepatitis A+B,
poliomyelitis and abdominaltyphus
-in special cases (check with your medic): rabies and meningitis
in short: as i allready told in a posting before, visit a medic
specialized in tropical diseases. i'm sure you'll travel much more
relaxed after that.
hope it did help.
cheers
javi
