I went to Morocco----and Tunisia---frequently when I lived in the UK, as
it was a popular holiday destination. Yes, there is harrassment to many
degrees. But whenever I left the hotel, I wore a shalwar kameez type of
outfit, with a head scarf and dark glasses, and I was rarely accosted.
I remember speaking with the hotel staff about the incidents of
harrassment I did hear about. Always, the respone was the same. "Madame,
you respect our culture, and we respect you for that."
Perhaps there is a jaded view of what western women are supposed to
be. Hpwever, I did not experience that in North Africa, although
Greece, where ideals are supposedly more liberal, was quite another
matter. Shokran.
