Just depends on what you want and the season. The easiest and cheapest
way is to book a combination of flight and beach holiday (available in
every prize category) and make some excursions from there. Don't know
about backpacking, never appealed to me. Certainly not in such countries.

People are nice but can be very challenging as to trying to get some
money from you. It can be tiring sometimes.

When I was there, I stayed at a tourist holiday at the beach and made
some trips with bush taxis to places of interest.
