Philip, the easiest route would be Nairobi to Dar es Salaam, then follow the
Tanzam highway through Tanzania to Lusaka, then through Zimbabwe to South
Africa.

The entire trip could be done in about 7 days if you don't mind a lot of
driving, and no sightseeing.

Actually, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and
Malawi are all pretty easy to travel through, as long as you stick to the
main roads.
