I was in Morocco about four years ago and what is said about the
unofficial guides is quite true. Tangier was a big mistake, it's the
pits with hash dealers every couple of yards and if you think great,
easy to get it, well the keef I tried was absolute rubbish and it was
the good stuff not what they sell to tourists.
I did have a good time in the rest of Morocco though especially after I
ditched the useless guide. Rabat is a beautiful place with very
friendly people, no tourist trap. Fez was laid back with no hassle,
great getting lost in the gigantic kazbar.
As for other Arabic countries, I visit Egypt regularly along with
Turkey and never have any hassles. I have noticed that virtually no
Americans go to either now, too scared. The ones that do go, from what
the inhabitants say, are tended to be respected as they are looked upon
as being different and brave compared to the normal US tourist.
