I *think* the front-to-back method is used now in order to free up
overhead bin space - i.e. if you're walking down the plane to row 20
and you see that the bins are full from 18-27 then you throw your
steamer trunk into the bin above 15 and walk down the aisle... And so
on. By boarding the rear last I suspect precious-bin space is
preserved.
