economy. Subjectively I found it a far superior seat to either Thai or SQ Posted on: 11 Apr 2006 07:22:45 GMT

Interesting. I just checked SQ' "Executive Economy" info at
http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/en_UK/content/exp/cabin/exececonomyclass_seat.jsp
and they only claim 37" pitch, barely more than Thai's regular economy.
Width 20", I think also one less line of seats.
I don't know what SQ's regular economy pitch is but it seems to be one of
the shorter one.

Subjectively (without a tape measure) my feelings are different. I am a
frequent flier on both airlines, long haul (Asia-Europe) and short (SE
Asia), mostly in economy, sometimes business. I would have guessed that
Thai's economy had a bit more pitch, maybe 2 inches, than SQ and the same
width, but often the seats are rather old and tired. In other respects I
find SQ service and general quality superior, especially their in-seat video
(all flights?) which is on-demand, i.e. you can play and pause the many
channels when you wish, not just when the system chooses to play a program.
I would always choose SQ over Thai for the same class, fare, etc.

I have not seen the Premium seat on Thai but I am amazed that the SQ
Executive Economy seats seem to only have 1" more pitch than normal Thai
economy. Subjectively I found it a far superior seat to either Thai or SQ
economy. Odd!

I have sometimes found that 2 seats on different airlines supposedly have
the same pitch but one seems to have much more room, and I think this must
due to seat design - how thick it is, how the lower reat cuts away into the
footwell, the design and placement of the foot rest (I often find these get
in the way of the legroom and wish they could be removed), etc.
