Subject: London-Houston-London : Best strategies for fares in early September for 2 week stay Posted on: Mon, 31 Jul 2006 14:49:21 GMT

I have a couple of friends coming to visit around Sept 7. As this is just
after the US Labor Day holiday and back to school etc. it appears that "At
some stage" fares should go down a ways. My friends have been monitoring the
fares like hawks, but so far no sign of "end of summer" or "into Fall" fares
at all. In fact something of an increase.

I do not know the best advice for them at this stage. I THINK it is "don't
panic" and keep looking out for fares to go down.

What do people (these folks are on a budget hence 50 or 100 quid saved makes
a big difference for them) think please?

I know a good portion of the fare is taxes of one form or another so one has
to be realistic as to what the bottom can be. They have seen fares of around
450 pounds. But I am thinking 350-375 is shootable for, especially via
consolidator ticket. Or am I being too optimistic for September/in the
current climate?

Thanks for any thoughts / proven strategies / consolidator or www site rec's
/ hints on timing the purchase.

I'd like these young friends to get the best deal (or close to) they can. I
live in the US and fares going the other way are more reasonable (at least
thinking in pounds-converted-to-dollars), but that does not help.

With thanks in advance.
