Indeed, sigh, no bag is perfect and if one is, I haven't found it. I
wish I could have some craftsman build one to my specs!

This bags solves many problems I had with others, but it introduces a
new one and I am trying to deal with that. It has enough compartments
(large ones), what it lacks are 6-8 little pockets my previous bag had
for sticking in pens, cell phones and other small gadgets.

I looked at his line. His flagship carryon model, a convertible, is not
very well made (but costs only $99). The best of that kind seems to be
MEI Voyageur. Rick Steves Civita daypack is quite good.
