What is so complicated ?

noon is the middle of the day.
midnight is the start of the day.

If you have digital clock with date, whatch when the day changes.
It changes when it goes from 23:59:59 to 00:00:00.
so 00:00:00 is the start of the day.

midnight is therefore before the middle of the day. (hence AM).

noon is right smack in the middle of the day, so technically not "PM".
But since AM is already taken for midnight, it makes sense to use PM.

Besides, by the time your brain has processed the image of the clock, it
is no longer 12:00 noon precisely since a few milliseconds have elapsed
and you are then definetly after-noon :-)
