Well, this is advised if you are carrying things like laptops,
or any other expensive electronic equipment. I have been
in the Internet radio business for a long time, and you
do NOT want to have to check expensive equipment
into checked baggage.

To broadcast live on the Net requires two computers,
one as a "mixer", and the other running the equipment
to get out onto the Net. When I am travelling, I am
often carrying EXPENSIVE equipment that I would
not trust with baggage handlers any further than I
could throw them. It also requires microphones,
amplfiers, backup hard disks, and a lot of other
expensive equipment that you would be LOONEY
to put into checked baggage.

The cost of driving to England, from DeGaulle
airport is far less than what it would cost to raplace
equipment lost to theft or damage. When I went to
Nottingham last year to cover a figure skating
competition there, I fly to DeGaulle airport in
Paris and then drove to Nottingham.

Nottingham is one place where there is NO
train service available from Paris. Even if had
taken a train from Paris, I would still have had
to have driven from London, becuase there is
NO train service from London to Nottingham.

If they ever bring a bigger figure skating event to England
again in the future, I am pretty sure that a lot of people
in the media will fly to Paris or Amsterdam and them
go by auto to England, to avoid having to check
expensive equipment into checked baggage.
