except that they can run windows software on the mac if they want.
also, many people don't really look all that hard for a mac version,
they just assume there's less software. plus, there is mac software
that's *not* available on windows, such as final cut pro and aperture.
in fact, many people buy macs just to run those.

absolute nonsense. macs use standard parts, such as ata/ide and sata
hard drives, dvi and vga displays, usb keyboard/mice, etc.

actually, apple having a minority share is the result of microsoft's
well publicized monopoly abuse. also steve jobs wasn't at the company
when apple's market share dropped in the 80s and 90s. when he
returned, market share increased.

although some of it is preference, there are differences in the user
interface. a lot of it is also inertia, as people don't generally want
to switch from what they're accustomed to. nevertheless, quite a few
do, as half the people buying macs are *new* to macs and never owned
one before.
