To be fair, Apple have done a far better job at gauging the kind of
consumer electronics the public wants of late than Amstrad have.

As someone posted elsewhere in the thread, it *could* be replaced by
device convergence, but equally the mobile-phone camera has not wiped
out the "separate" camera, so I suspect the "stand-alone" music player
will exist for some time yet.
