Which is because, like with mobile phones, the market is more or less
saturated. So you need to move onto selling upgraded devices to
people who already have one, especially as the iPods are generally
pretty solidly-made so last well (particularly the metal-case Nanos
which are pretty much bulletproof), give or take the battery issue.

The initial growth was (again like mobile phones) because they had
become affordable, desirable and not everybody who wanted one had one.
