I stay at a place called Gokarna in Karnataka, slightly south of Goa. there
is a rail station called Gokarna road. there are 3 beaches, one main long
one with nice walks, but it can be a bit shitty, not camel either !!! Om
beach and Paradise beach which are lovely, but you have to walk to them over
the headland. Gokarna tends to be used by long term visitors but there are
plenty of very cheap beach side guest houses, with "huts" basic usually with
a veranda. most have a restaurant attached. the town nestles in a lush
valley and is on the main pilgrimage route so there is plenty of local life
going on. the guest house at the far end of the main beach is the best, its
called the Chai shop... (I think) and has a great atmosphere. there are some
lovely walks in the area....... and it is very laid back... I have been
there several times and love it... if you do go, will you say "hi" to latif
for me... he has the best shop in town selling good carpets and
gifts......thanks....hope you enjoy.
