The JW Marriott is a 5 star hotel. Right now rooms there are going on
Priceline for $55 + 7% tax + 10% service charge. You don't get to pick the
hotel on Priceline, but when you pick a 5 star hotel on Sukvimvitt you will
usually get the JW Marriott or an equally good hotel such as the Sheraton or
Landmark. You can definitely get this at less than $100 at a travel agent.
This is not the perfect location, but is good. Sheraton is a better location
because it closer to the BTS skytrain stop also on Sukvimvitt.

The Lotus Novotell is a 4 star hotel. The normal rates are about $60-$80.
They go for less than that on Priceline, and I believe they are the only 4
star Sukvimvitt hotel on Priceline. The Novotell Lotus is located near the
Emporium Shopping mall and the BTS sky train station. Good location. Again
travel agent prices are cheaper, but not quite as cheap as Priceline.
For $100 you can get rooms in the Emporium Suites Managed Apartments.
Managed Apartments are really like hotels in Bangkok. This is on top of the
Emporium Shopping Mall and directly connected to the sky train at level 2 of
the mall. You can get a rate near $100 though a travel agent. Monthly rates
negotiated directly with the hotel are even cheaper than the travel agent
rates. THIS WOULD BE THE ULTIMATE LOCATION, especially during the blistering
heat and humidity of summer..

$100
As noted in the other post, travel agents have much better rates in Bangkok
unless you start negotiating directly with the hotel management. If you can
afford $100 per day, you should aim for a 5 star hotel. If you want to save
a little, go for 4 stars, but forget about 3 stars. In Bangkok, everything
is negotiable. Always ask about VAT tax (7%), service charges (10%), and
American Breakfast. Some rates include these and some don't.
