Well... It's what 'they' told Suharto to do when he was President,
obviously in the last few years of his presidency, he wasn't very
obidient to 'them', that's why 'they' pressured him to come down by
creating a nationwide riot in May 1998.

It should be noted many if not most Indonesians are Chinese related,
the blending are so tight that many Chinese descended Indonesians
seems to forget that they are Chinese.

The ones who are considered as Chinese these days generally are the
Chinese that are just newly immigrated.

Considering the fact that many Chinese in indonesia are muslims.

It's because it wasn't Suharto who wanted there in the first place, it
was 'them'. Suharto is only 'their' 'tool'.
