There is no shortage of public phone operators catering to backpackers and
the phoneless.

Also you can make cheap calls using VoIP at some internet cafes. Their cost
for these is about US$0.03/minute (8 baht) so hopefully you won't have to
pay a whole lot more than that if you shop around.
