Bangkok is a fascinating city. I recommend:

-Temple of the Emerald Buddha
-Grand Palace
-Wat Po (a giant reclining Buddha)
-Wat Traimit (golden Buddha)
-Lak Muang Shrine
-Erawan Shrine
-A boat trip down a canal
-Tea at the Oriental hotel
-"Royal Thai" cuisine and Isaan (northeast thailand) cuisine
-Chinatown
-Pahurat (center of Bangkok's Indian community)
-Thai massage
-coconuts, papaya salad, and sugar cane juice sold by street vendors

I recommend that you avoid:
-Khao San Road (unless you want to meet other travelers)
-Thai boxing (it sounds cool but it's really boring to watch)
-tuk-tuks (they're dangerous to ride in and a lot of them will try to
rip you off)
-floating markets (a tourist trap)
-buying gems or electronics unless you really know what you're doing,
since there are a lot of scams

I was in Kamakura. It's a beautiful town, and the history was really
interesting. Anyone who visits Tokyo should spend a day in Kamakura
to see a more traditional side of Japan.
