Most of the times I had indeed an outbound ticket, but in one case I
flew to Malaysia from Frankfurt one-way only (I had purchased a return
ticket KL-FRA-KL in Malaysia and was returning).
The lady at the check-in in Frankfurt asked if I lived in Malaysia, so I
explained that I was making a longer tour in SE Asia and that I would
purchase a return ticket to Germany in Malaysia. That answer was fine
for her.
