You might consider travelling by train, should be much safer than
by car.
There is a train Bucuresti - Istanbul, which conveys a through car
Budapest - Istanbul. Budapest - Istanbul takes two nights.
From Istanbul Haydarpasa station (on the Asian part of the city)
you can take the once-weekly train to Tehran. The ticket
Istanbul - Tehran costs 61,60 Swiss Francs, the trip takes 66
hours.

Slovakia doesn't have a border with Croatia, Croatia doesn't have
one with Bulgaria, and Romania not with Turkey - you should take a
look at a map!
Possible routes:
Switzerland - Austria - Hungary - Romania - Bulgaria - Turkey
or
Switzerland - Austria - Hungary - Serbia - Bulgaria - Turkey
or
Switzerland - Austria - Slovenia - Croatia - Serbia - Bulgaria -
Turkey
or
Switzerland - Italy - Slovenia - Croatia - Serbia - Bulgaria -
Turkey

What citizen are you? I (Austrian) don't need a visa for Bulgaria
and Romania.

I bought a visa for EUR 15 at the Bulgarian/Turkish border when
entering the country by train in April. Don't know if getting the
visa at the border is possible for citizen of every country.
