from Bangkok center to Kanchanaburi is a Bustrip cost u 3 hour (mind 3 h
back).
In Kan' is to see
- the River Kwae Bridge
- 2 museum about that bridge
- the war cemetary
- some common tempels
exept the bridge there is nothing 'must seen' of this and even the
bridge ... it is an old bridge more or less.
from Kan' to Erawan is again around 2 hour trip with car or bus. The train
leave twice a day. I don't now the timetable.
You walk uphill along the falls. It's not a comfort path. To go slow with
breaks is more relaxing. It's a amazing natural impression.
When we visited it we arrive at noon. We was short on time and we didn't
walk to the top fall. I thought it's the best to come in the morning and
use the hole day only for the falls. Bring some food with and take a bath
and rest at some place more top.
The backpackers center is along the Mae Nam Kwae Road (River Kwai road)
which end up at the bridge. Travellers find lot's of guesthouses and
restaurants for every budget. Some agents arrange tours around incl.
Erawan falls. Use there services is little more expensive then to find your
way by yourself (but maybe fail).
While stay in Kan' I prever the 'Green Garden' guesthouse. All others are
close to the river or road, both noisy. They have big rooms doublebet with
own bathroom, kindly stuff. I guess around 250Baht a night.
In my opinion. Khanchanaburi is not a nice city, you can know Thailand
without seen it. Interessting is the close to Bangkok and wait for your
returnflight avoid Bangkok, staying a more thai-like place. I hope my
overview is helpful for make your decision and ineressting for all
traveller in the future (and the past - for remeber)
chok dee (good luck)
