You can use it originating from Europe as well. I did. Flew into
Tokyo from Brussels with BA, then with the All Asia Pass to Tapei and
on to Bangkok. The problem with the pass is that it doesn't have many
flights to and from Hong Kong. But it does have Macau to Bangkok.

Alternatively, buy a ticket to Tokyo with China Airlines (of Taiwan).
I know that from Amsterdam they offer a flight to Tokyo, with
stopovers allowed in Bangkok, Hong Kong and Tapei. Don't know
if they fly from London, but getting to Amsterdam from London,
is no big deal anyway. If you can't book the China Airlines
flight from London, you can book it through a Dutch travel agent,
they all speak English anyway.
