They are two different rivers.

I recommend you try to book the newest ship possible. They don't know how
to do maintainence in China. Ships (and buildings) fall apart relatively
fast.

You can cruise all the way to Shanghai. But why would anyone do that I
don't know. Only a relatively short stretch of the river is interesting
scenically (and fast becoming not so because of the dam).

I think a visit to the dam is part of most of the cruises.
