I agree with your recommendations regarding the trip DMS should take. I
think it is not possible to visit really untouched tribal cultures within
three weeks while visiting Asia for the first time carrying the amount of
knowledge DMS does.
The reason tribes are almost "untouched "by western culture is that it is
very hard to get to them. No roads, airfields or whatever. Even for local
tribal people ,used to walking through dense forest ,a distance of e.g. 10
kilometers is enough to develop a complete other language and culture. The
government of some of the Asean countries would probably love the idea of
being able to reach any place in their country within three weeks.Think of
the tsunami and how long it took to get help everywhere where it was needed.
This was only coast line, also accessible by sea. I think DMS would love a
5/7 days hill-tribe trek from Chiang Rai. Just enough to see something more
than most people do. Untouched no, different yes.
