Visiting Vietnam for the First Time. Help, Please? Posted on: Sun, 2 Oct 2005 03:40:19 +0000 (UTC)

Hi Everyone,

Long time lurker, first time... errr... "asker"... errr...
"enquirer"... errr...
"oh-please-help-me-with-my-rudimentary-post-erer"? You guys are
incredibly knowledgeable & I have enjoyed reading past logs &
discussions. So, I hope you can help me with my current dilemma. I've
found tons of stuff on Vietnam... unfortunately, most are dated.

My husband & I would like to travel to Vietnam for a 3-week vacation.
Since Tet is THE Vietnamese holiday, we plan to either begin or end our
visit in Saigon to enjoy the celebration. Whew!

With that said, we are new... correction - *I* am new to international
travel, let alone Vietnam. A few questions, if you don't mind:
1) where do I go for cheap-to-reasonable tickets? Currently $1,400 -
$1,800 RT from DC.
2) What papers do I need (eg. visas, etc) ... and where should I get
&/or inquire about it/them?
3) Do I need shots, vaccines, etc?
4) Where should we visit once in Vietnam? We are flexible to anything
and anywhere, restricted only to our 3-weeks allotted time.
5) Where should we stay?
6) What should we do?
7) Which restaurants to eat?
8) My husband plan to pack LIGHT - with thoughts of buying clothes
while in Vietnam. Is that wise?
9) We would like to travel up north. What is the best (aka cheapest)
way to make that trip?
10) Is it safe to visit Vietnam?

We are hoping to soak in as much of the country as we can. Any
experience/opinions you may have to enhance our visit... please...
PLEASE help. One last thing, we have a 16 pound dog (our baby)... we
would love to take her along. Is that possible???

I thank you most sincerely for your advice! :)
