Re: Place to stay in Bangkok? Posted on: Fri, 7 Oct 2005 15:07:34 +0000 (UTC)

The Vieng Tai is ok, but I prefer the Royal, which benefits from not
being the Lonely Planet recommendation (and therefore putting their
prices up due to backpackers recoiling in horror from some of the foul
cockroach-infested hellholes in Khao San.

The best value in the area (about 350 baht?) I remember being a
concrete place set back from the Khao San area, the name of which I do
not remember, but, coming from Khao San and going towards the Royal was
towards the right. I remember that they had .ography on the
television. Not the nicest place of course, but very good value, and
much better than the backpacker shitholes for the same price in Khao
San.

Can anybody remember the name?

For the OP this probably isn't what is wanted: last time in Bangkok, I
put my wife up at a hotel near the airport for a day. This was the Rama
Gardens

Certainly fairly civilized as a place to relax if you really don't want
to sample the delights of Bangkok....
