Subject: Taxi crisis in Goa? Posted on: Thu, 24 Nov 2005 12:20:44 +0100

I read on www.goacom.com that there is a very big taxi crisis in Goa, even
the UK touroperators are thinking of pulling their customers out of Goa!!!
It seems that the taxis in the south are rebelling. This is the full story:
In an alarming international fallout of 'taxi terrorism' the Federation of
Tour Operators from London are in Goa to assess the safety of tourists in
Goa. While the deadlock between the South Goa taxi operators and tour
operators continues, the solution lies in decisive action by the Tourism
Minister, Dr Wilfred de Souza, who is away attending the World Trade Mart in
London during the peak of the crisis. The FTO has clearly indicated that
unless the situation is resolved immediately they would be forced to pull
the tourists out of Goa. Meanwhile, North Goa operators and representatives
of travel companies are scared to go to South Goa to pick up guests.

We are leaving for Goa on monday and we are worried about this. We have been
to Goa many times and the number of taxis has been growing to a ridiculous
proportion.
