Subject: 85% of English don't speak French Posted on: Sun, 22 Jan 2006 15:55:44 +0000 (UTC)

A brief survey in England today revealed that over 85% of people don't speak
French.
Of the remaining 15%, two thirds know how to order a beer and a basic meal,
whilst fewer than 2 in 100 could be described as anything approaching fluent
in the language.

It should, however, be noted that only 80% could be said to be fluent in
English.

The predominant attitude was that foreignors should always speak English in
order to avoid placing undue stress on the fragile Anglo-Saxon psyche.
