I personally would do a side trip to Angkor from Bangkok. I thought it
was amazing, and it can be done in 2-3 days.
Chiang Mai is also another good trip from Bangkok.
Jakarta -- not really. Too much like India, IMO. It's not a tourist
destination in itself.
Bali is interesting; art and beaches. Huge statues of Indian heroes
(Pandavas). If you're into art, consider Ubud. Depending on when you
go, it could be very hot.
Beijing can be done as a tourist. I was impressed by the Great Wall,
mainly for the sheer scale and the way it is laid over all kinds of
hilly terrain.
Some of the little traditional streets are interesting, but its
becoming too much highways and highrises to be very interesting
otherwise.

It'll give you a sense of the bustle and out-of-control growth China is
seeing. This works as a day-trip. I personally didn't think much of
Macau. I've been there several times, and find it's losing its
ambiance. Hong Kong itself is worth a couple of days at least.
Especially if there's someone you can see it with.
So, in summary: I suggest Bangkok, Angkor, Chiang Mai; and Hong Kong/
Guangdong.
