With my best efforts, I really cannot imagine anybody wanting to have a
dog for a pet. Really, there is no association with the words "dog" and
"pet" for me.
On a more serious note, I don't think a dog in China has the same
emotional importance as a dog in western Europe. I was in China last
year and of all the thousands of dogs I saw there, not one was properly
taken care of. Even the local people didn't touch the creatures, afraid
of catching some skin disease.

Well, I think clubbing a dog isn't as bad as the way we treat animals
here in bio-industy. Of course that doesn't make clubbing the best way
for killing a dog, but remember that not everyone has the means to pay a
vet to kill the dog in a "humane" way.
