Subject: Need some advice for first time in China

I'll be traveling to Shanghai and Hong Kong at the end of January.
Never been there before. Will have a weekend of free time. Any
suggestions on which place to spend it. I'll be by myself and speak
only English. Museums, historical sites, gardens all would have some
interest. I haven't traveled to non-English speaking countries, so am
a bit aprehensive about getting around and communicating. Any
suggestions will be appreciated.
