I have been to Egypt and China (three time to the latter), but India is
definitely in a league of its own in terms of filthiness and
inconvenience. Most of the time it took me 2-3 hours for a 10km taxi
ride in Mumbai. Walking is NOT an option. No streets in Indian cities
are safe for walking, especially if you are a westerner (street
hawkers, beggars, hungry kids, human wastes, not to mention the crazy
indian drivers and stupid cows). India is light years behind China and
other developing countries. The only places you fee safe/comfortable is
the 4/5 star hotels managed by western international companies. Egypt
has some poverty problems, but its travel infrastructure and tourist
spots are well managed. India is a total mess.
