A friend of us just accepted a local contract in China for three years
(previously she was there on an expat basis). I can only assume that she
has no problems with human rights violations in China. I myself never
felt uncomfortable travelling in China. It's obviously not a democracy,
but if you don't make demonstrations on the streets and use some common
sense (don't break the law, but do I have to mention this?) you can live
very well in China.
