It's hip? Well its website proclaims it as expensive, but I note
singles get down to 85 bucks.
It's in Meguro-ku, which I've not visited though I been to another 15
or so areas of Tokyo. Is it it fun down there? Seems a bit far out.

I don't know. I always make a beeline for a magazine rack and get a
copy of the Daily Yomiuri, JapanTimes, Mainichi Daily. They don't
always have stuff that's worthwhile, but not-infrequently they have
stuff I wouldn't find otherwise. I scrounge around and get a copy of
the current Time Out Tokyo, too, which is a little closer to the mark.
I also check a week or two before going on the local online websites:

We pursue a lot of dining and such. So I scope this page, which
