They have proposed this before but nothing seemed to happen. It seems to
re-emerge avery 10 years or so.
It would not be easy. It's a earthquake zone, near an active volcano (Anak
Krakatau), and I think the water is quite deep.
Also it is a busy shipping channel for .
The concept is supposedly based on the Messina Straits bridge project in
Italy, also a quake and volcano zone. I think that project was cancelled in
2006.
I see that Tommy Winata, a very rich business man and supposedly one of
Indonesia's top gamblers, seems to be pushing it this time. I assume he
thinks it is feasible, or at least he sees a way of making money.
