I would tend to diagnose you as a bit obsessive/compulsive, but
feel free to consult your family doctor, who could always refer
you to a local "shrink". :-)

As I have said, or at least implied, before not all people share
your views.

You may have noted that some of my more recent posts, such as the
current value of the A$ against the US$ have been prefaced by
"OT" indicating that they were perhaps "off topic" as far as you,
and personalities like you, are concerned.

Personally, I think that current exchange rates are of value to
both visitors and potential immigrants.

You, of course, may disagree.

Am an American, as you have may have gathered, if you don't
suffer from "A.A.D." or "Attention Deficit Disorder".

Not saying that you do, of course. Even those of us who know a
bit about the condition are reluctant to try to make a diagnosis,
let alone a prognosis, in usenet groups.

If you want to attempt a self-diagnosis, I would advise against
it. Most humans are pretty inept at this.

If you do know anything about psychology or psychiatry, would you
tend to favour the interpretations of Freud, Adler, Jung or
others. Please advise!

I do note your use of capital letters in your post. Most people
consider this as the written equivalent of "shouting" and it is
generally considered somewhat "rude" on most groups.

>It would not include discussion on how Australia is governed, or what
>the economic growth of Australia is, or other statistical, social or
>political discussion (this type of discussion is more appropriate for
>the existing group soc.culture.australian).

Your opinion, you are entitled to it, but you don't have to read
my posts, you know. Invest a few bucks in a decent newsreader
and you can "killfile" me. :-)

You may or may not have noted that my recent posts to this group
have been prefaced with "OT". This stands for "off topic".

If you had a decent news reader post such as one of the "Agent"
variations, you could impose a simple "killfile" filter on any
"OT" posts, or a more specific one for my posts.

Then you wouldn't have to read them, let alone comment on them.

However, I don't mind. Both immigrant and travel groups are very
slow compared to other groups.

Why do I bother to post anything at all on either or both?
...Pretty simple, actually. When I migrated here from the USA
such info wasn't readily available.

Perhaps you are young enough to take the Internet for granted,
but I am not.

In short, should I tell either travelers or potential migrants of
the present rapidly appreciating A$, or the decline in the US$?

I would have greatly valued such info when I came here, had it
been instantly available.

Do try to face facts!: Our world is rapidly changing, as Bob
Dylan implied.

When I was a child, the world was far different. An overseas
phone call involved going through a series of "operators". Today,
if I had your phone number, could dial it as easy as could call
my neighbor across the street.

A movement of 5 or 10 points on the DJA [Dow Jones Average] was
front page news.

Today, 200 or even 300 points is not that unusual. How about
currency exchange rates? Today, they not only vary from day to
day but from minute to minute.

Don't you think that these factors just might matter to tourists
or migrants?

If you don't, then perhaps you aren't as intelligent as I thought
you might be.

It can be difficult to tell on the basis of Usenet posts, after
all.

As I have said, or at least implied, in earlier posts, your
insistence on adhering to a "charter" for this particular group
at least raises the possibility that you are suffering from
O.C.D.

Or, to pluck a quote from my daily wanderings on the net:

"I have CDO. It's like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder,
only in alphabetical order like it should be." :-)

My suggestion to you is that you try to "relax" a little and
allow people like me to post on an open group. As I have
mentioned earlier, you could always try to get the "unmoderated
group" to convert to a "moderated group" with you as the
"moderator". Then you could censor any post that "offended"
you, in any way.

As it happens, am "Christian" and not "Jewish".

However, I often appreciate Jewish humor. If you manage to get
in charge of this group, you might get from hints from their
latest post on appropriate behavior.

If you can't find it on the net, will lead you to it.

Their rules should satisfy the most dedicated sufferer of O.C.D.!

Do you wish to debate "rules" further, and "desirability" of
same?

No particular problem. This is one of the groups I check
occasionally. Feel free to make a fool of yourself, if you wish.

Regards,
Kangaroo16
