Why bother, there are plenty of other jobs that pay better. The problem
with harvest jobs these days is that by the time you pay for travel to
get too and from the area and accommodation cost to be in the area, you
are lucky to break even, let alone pay for existing house, family, etc.
In the old days, you were able to camp on the property and had a tin
dunny and bucket wash. These days, that isn't allowed.
On top of that, growers often want it picked instantly and flood the
place with pickers, so you end up with less work and less per day(piece
rates).
Been there done that plenty of times. Now it is better to sit at home and
wait for casual forklift, warehouse, stock take, shelf packing, fit outs,
etc, etc. Pays $20-25/hr. |
