The shopping hours is probably due to the population factor. You think
of the population in each state in USA and then look at the population
in Perth (or WA). There is just not enough people there to have the
shops open until all hours. That is why they allocate one night per
week for late night shopping.
I admit it will be a bit hard for me to get used to again when I move
back to Perth, but you take the good with the bad - and I don't consider
it all bad that the shops aren't open til late at night. If you finish
at 5pm, you can easily get to the shops and have it done by 6pm -
probably spend less money too if you don't have hours to dawdle around
picking up everything in sight that you don't really need. ;)
