I had to stay there last year when the fires closed the highway. After
one night I decided that I would sleep in my car in future rather than
stay there.

You might also want to check out "Leura House" - it is an old convent
that has been renovated, and is in a part of Leura that is close
enough to be convenient - walking distance - without the
terror^H^H^H^H^H^Htourist traffic.
Another option is Megalong Lodge (not to be confused with Megalong
Manor). Located opposite Katoomba Golf Club, with fantastic views of
the Megalong Valley.

Trains during the day are hourly to Katoomba, with every second train
continuing past Katoomba west to Lithgow (Blackheath is two stations
past Katoomba). If you don't want to wait for the direct train and
decide to catch a Katoomba train, you can either catch a cab - about
an $18 fare from Katoomba rail to Blackheath rail - or have a beer in
the Gearins (it is okay during the day) or the Carrington.
