I say hire a car and stay in hotels. Cost is about the same, it won't
restrict you.

Just do South island if its only 12 days.

Plenty of places. Every sports store has business cards of guides.

Queenstown

Sign of the Takehe Restaurant in Christchurch. It was the restaurant in the
movie "The Frighteners" with Michael J Fox. It is charming and the food is
magnificent. Its pricey but that won't worry you on your anniversary.

In the mountains you need a jacket, gloves and beanie.

Reeces, twinkies, apple music store

We came here for our honeymoon and never went home. This is one of those
holiday destinations that it is really hard to leave.
