I'd like to thank absolutely everyone who posted responses to my query.
At the moment I'm in a state of information overload. As someone
suggested "better to get on the ground and look around" (paraphrased).
As soon as the rain stops (yes, the Mojave Desert can be a strange
place), I'm ready to go. Thanks again.
