Roughly. It would work, although voltages and cycles vary slightly from
state to state.

Yeah, strange how Australia has failed to follow Indian standards 8-) Any
major electronic store (Dick Smith, Tandy's) would have converters. They
are undoubtedly available at home as well (Wal-Mart and the ilk have 'em in
the travel section). Beware that some converters are not recommended for
sensitive equipment.

Whole other topic......it really depends on what you want it to do, and what
is most important (processing speed, battery life....). There are tons of
technical mags (PC World, etc.) that have monthly ratings and tests;
Consumer Reports would also be a good place to go.

Personally, I've had good luck with Dell.
