Yes, you say that frequently here. [You don't happen to be a
Cuban ex-pat, do you? That would certainly explain things.]
Anyway, I have sent CDs to a friend I met in Trinidad, and he did
receive them. Not only that, he sent me a nice letter and
postcard thanking me for them. So they do get there, probably
with about the reliability of sending things here (S.Africa).
What's a CD worth, $10? If it's a 50% crap-shoot, then it's
$5 you'll be expecting to lose. Is it worth the headache of
trying to find someone to carry it, or some other registered
carriage method for $5? Just send it, and see what happens.
Maybe it depends whether your recipient's family is in the
local party, or whatever. I suppose every country has its
different methods of corruption.
By the way, we (well at that time my wife) spoke spanish, and
a few of the people we met were out to take us for a ride, but
some we stayed with (a university professor and another family)
were very open, friendly, honest, earnest. Maybe you're having
bad luck, looking in the wrong places, or attracting the wrong
types. You find bad types in every country, but you seem intent
on painting a whole country of people with one brush.
"whatever".
